Syracuse Summer Pre-College: On-Campus, Online, and On-Location

United Planet Global Citizen Leadership Program

Program Grades: Ages 16+

The Global Citizen Leader Internship Program is an extraordinary opportunity for high school students to engage in virtual internships with social enterprises and nonprofits in over 20 countries, all from the comfort of their homes. This fully funded program not only provides valuable work experience but also offers comprehensive training in global citizen leadership.

Civics Unplugged Programs

Program Grades: High school students

Civics Unplugged Programs are designed for high school aged leaders who are passionate about solving community issues and want to channel their passion into innovative action. Participants will join a global community of civic leaders, learn from leaders, and get hands-on experience with new ideas and technologies that are changing the world. Graduates get access to funding, paid opportunities, and mentorship that turns education to action.

City of Little Rock Summer Youth Employment Opportunity (SYEO)

Program Grades: Ages 16+

The Summer Youth Employment Opportunity provides City of Little Rock's youth between the ages of 16-21 with paid summer employment, including training, for up to six weeks during the summer months. SYEO also provides training on job readiness, career exploration, financial literacy and opportunities to continue educational and social growth.

Summer Liberal Arts Institute (SLAI)

U.S. Senate Page Program - Summer Session

Program Grades: Juniors; Ages 16-17

The Senate Page Program allows students a unique opportunity to learn about Congress while continuing with their coursework. Page responsibilities center around their work assisting Senators in the Senate Chamber when Congress is in session. Page duties consist primarily of delivery of correspondence and legislative material within the Congressional Complex.

CHCI NextGen Latino Leadership Program

Program Grades: Current Sophomores & Juniors

The NextGen Latino Leadership Program provides current 10th and 11th grade students the opportunity to spend a week in Washington, D.C., exploring the city, learning about the legislative process and developing their leadership skills as emerging leaders.

U.S. Senate Youth Program

Program Grades: Rising Juniors & Seniors

USSYP is an intensive week-long educational experience and scholarship sponsored by the United States Senate for outstanding high school juniors and seniors, who may qualify to apply through leadership positions they currently hold per the USSYP official criteria for the current academic year.

Congressional Youth Cabinet

Senator John Boozman’s Congressional Youth Cabinet will provide selected high school students in Arkansas with an opportunity to influence the policymaking process and better understand how Congress works.

The Congressional Award is the United States Congress’ award for young Americans. Each level involves setting goals in four program areas; Voluntary Public Service, Personal Development, Physical Fitness, and Expedition/Exploration.

United States Naval Academy (USNA) Summer Seminar

Program Grades: Juniors

During the six-day session, you will live in Bancroft Hall, participate in academic and leadership workshops, and experience a variety of other activities on the campus. Indiana University - High School Journalism Institute (HSJI)

The High School Journalism Institute is a summer program inviting student journalists to the IU campus for a week of skill development. Their workshops provide a chance to connect with journalism professionals, meet student journalists and award-winning advisers, and produce engaging work.

Marketing Essentials

Climate Resilience Institute

Topics in this program span from resilient water infrastructure to climate activism and environmental justice. Working in small teams, students will identify a socio-environmental research question, gather and analyze data on the subject, and synthesize their findings into a college-level capstone project.

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y): Summer Program

AgDiscovery Program 

Program Grades: 9th-12th grade; varies by university

AgDiscovery is a free summer outreach program to help teenagers explore careers in agricultural sciences. As an AgDiscovery student, you’ll live on a college campus for 2–4 weeks and learn from university professors and USDA experts—plant and animal scientists, biotechnologists, veterinarians, wildlife biologists, administrative professionals, and others.

Virtual National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) 

Program Grades: 15-18 years old

For novice language learners with an interest in other cultures, Virtual NSLI-Y is a 10-week program where students get to meet people from a specific culture and learn the language. Students meet in a virtual classroom for two, 90-minute sessions with another ten students and a language teacher.

Interlochen Arts Camp

The Interlochen Arts Camp is for students who want to study music, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, film and new media, dance, and interdisciplinary arts.

Summer Stage

Program Grades: Rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders

The program offers a unique exposure to nontraditional methodologies of creating theatre, placing them in the dual role of writer and performer. Students work with professional playwrights, poets, directors, musicians and actors to explore the process of creating a unique performance.

Summer Scholarships - Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Program Grades: Teens in grades 7–11 who receive a Gold or Silver Key are eligible to apply for a SAS Scholarship

The Scholastic Award Summer scholarship program proves teenagers who have been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for their artwork in order for them to partake in summer art programs on a full-tuition scholarship.

CBYX (Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange)

Program Grades: High school students ages 15 to 18 ½ on August 1 of the program departure year 

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship is for motivated high school students who want to experience a culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience.The CBYX program additionally offers vocational and young professional scholarship opportunities; visit the Programs page to learn more. No German language study/knowledge is required to apply.

Asian American Journalists Association - JCamp 

Program Grades: Sophomores and Juniors

AAJA’s JCamp is a national multicultural journalism program for high school students. The six-day training camp brings together culturally diverse students from across the nation to learn from veteran journalists and leading media executives. JCamp participants will receive hands-on training and produce multiplatform news packages for the program’s news site, JCamp Live.

Bank of America Student Leaders

Program Grades: Juniors and Seniors

An opportunity to intern at local nonprofit organizations and serve the community as well as attend the Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C., to gain practical experience and advance employability skills.

Benefits to Attending: This paid eight-week internship will connect a diverse group of more than 300 community-minded high school juniors and seniors that are united by their drive and commitment from over 100 communities to employment, skills development and service.

University of Notre Dame Leadership Seminar

Leadership Seminars is a competitive, 10-day program on Notre Dame's campus for academically talented students who show impressive leadership within their communities and strong academic standing with solid extracurricular activities.

Bezos Scholar Program

Exceptional students participate in a leadership development program that amplifies youth voices and action. Scholars act on their passions and develop sustainable community change projects.

Japan-America Friendship Scholars

Program Grades: Born between April 2, 2008- April 1, 2010 

Students are able to apply for a six-week stay in Japan with a host family. Attending traditional tea ceremonies, practicing martial arts, and visiting local summer festivals are just some of the activities that YFU students to Japan may experience during their exchange.

Iowa Young Writers Studio

Workshops and seminars at the University of Iowa, with the goal to study and appreciate poetry and creative writing. In addition to sharing writing and receiving criticism from teachers and peers, students also attend readings and other literary events.

The Arkansas Governor’s School is a four-week summer residential program for upcoming high school seniors who are residents of the state of Arkansas. Students are selected on the basis of their special aptitudes in one of the nine fields: Choral Music, Development Engineering, Drama, English/Language Arts, Instrumental Music, Mathematics, Natural Science, Social Science, and Visual Arts.

U.S. High School Diplomats

HSD U.S. is an eight-day program providing 20 American students the opportunity to engage in academic and social pursuits, and forge lifelong friendships with 20 Japanese students of the same age. During the eight-day program hosted on the grounds of the University of Virginia, each American student is paired with a Japanese roommate.

Camp at Cronkite

Program Grades: High school students

Camp Cronkite is where high schoolers from across the country come to grow their media skills—and get a taste of college! Students leave with real media skills and work to bolster (or kickstart!) their professional portfolios.

LBW offers opportunities to learn about leadership in 21st century organizations through a dynamic and rigorous mix of classes with Wharton professors and business leaders, real-time business simulations, and team-building activities.

The Academy for Public Service was created to create a new class of leaders that are focused on solving problems. Having political parties is not allowed. It was created to teach civic engagement, public service leadership, ethics in public service, and to teach people how to maintain our democracy.
