Student Conservation Association - National Crews

Program Grades: High school students and graduating seniors ages 15-19

National Crews gives students the opportunity to work on parks restoration projects and trail maintenance in crews of 6-8 students. Students learn outdoor skills and learn about ecology and the environment.

National Ocean Sciences Bowl
Program Grades: High school students

This competition starts with a regional contest similar to a quiz bowl but with all the questions related to the study of the oceans and their environment. Winners of regional contests have the opportunity to advance to the national level contest.

The Emerson Prize

This scholarship is awarded to students who are able to get a piece of work (history-related) published in The Concord Review and who present academic promise.

Summer Scholarships - Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Program Grades: Teens in grades 7–11 who receive a Gold or Silver Key are eligible to apply for a SAS Scholarship

The Scholastic Award Summer scholarship program proves teenagers who have been recognized by the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards for their artwork in order for them to partake in summer art programs on a full-tuition scholarship.

TEAMS

Program Grades: High school students

Students take a skills test and then compete in a design challenge. Juniors from the Engineering Capstone class must enter, but other ASMSA students are allowed to join with them to create teams. All costs are covered by ASMSA.

Pre-College ArtLab (PCAL)
Program Grades: Rising Sophomores to Graduating Seniors

Students can apply for PCAL and be placed in one of five studios to study and explore the topic (Animation, Ceramics, Illustration, Painting and Product Design) in Kansas City Art Institute. In addition to their chosen studios, all students will participate in sessions in other areas, including art history and life drawing.

Our Future is Science (OFIS)

Our Future Is Science (OFIS) is a virtual, near-peer Mentorship Program in its fourth year that pairs graduate STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) students with high school students, fostering a supportive and relatable mentorship dynamic.

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y): Academic Year

Through the NSLI-Y Academic year program, students will travel to a country of their choice for the duration of the academic school year.

Kelly Young Women's Leadership Institute

Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP)

Program Grades: Ages 16+

The Science and Engineering Apprenticeship Program (SEAP) places high school students in Department of Navy (DoN) laboratories where they take part in real Naval research for eight weeks during the summer.

University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS)

Program Grades: Juniors

The opportunity to participate in hands-on research at UAMS during the year (Wednesday and Friday afternoons) and in the summer. Currently, students from the Life Science Capstone apply and are selected based on merit to be placed in a laboratory researching the latest breakthroughs in molecular biology and cancer research using state-of-the art equipment and biotechnology.

CHCI NextGen Latino Leadership Program

Program Grades: Current Sophomores & Juniors

The NextGen Latino Leadership Program provides current 10th and 11th grade students the opportunity to spend a week in Washington, D.C., exploring the city, learning about the legislative process and developing their leadership skills as emerging leaders.

National Stem Challenge

Program Grades: High school students

Craft a STEM project that tackles a real-world challenge. The best projects from all 50 U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. territories will become Challenge Finalists with the opportunity to advance to the next level by submitting a video in the second round.

National Latin Exam

Program Grades: High school students

Students take a 40-question, 45-minute exam and are awarded a range of certificates. There are seven exams that students can take based on proficiency in Latin.

Solve for Tomorrow
Program Grades: High school students

Students research and develop a project to use technology to solve a problem in their community. Students must be part of a team working with a teacher as a class, but any STEM teacher can act as a mentor.

Congressional App Challenge

Program Grades: High school students

The Congressional App Challenge is the most prestigious prize in student computer science. Students use any programming language to design a new app. Students may register as individuals or as teams of up to four.

Junior Sciences & Humanities Symposium (JSHS)

Program Grades: High school students

JSHS invites high school students to report on the results of their original research investigations in STEM and compete for scholarships and recognition at university-held regional symposia.

The Herblock Award for Editorial Cartoon - Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Program Grades: Grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up)

This contest allows students to create an editorial cartoon–drawing, illustration, a series of art pieces, or animated short film–that critiques the current American political climate. The Herb Block Foundation will award a scholarship worth $2,000 to the three winning students.

Portfolio Scholarships - Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Program Grades: Grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up)

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Portfolio Scholarships takes many different types of art mediums such as visual art, music, writing, and many others. For each student’s portfolio, they must write a personal statement that must not exceed 500 words.

Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

Program Grades: Grades 7–12 (ages 13 and up)

Students can submit their work. They accept work in 28 categories related to the arts and writing. Winners receive recognition via ceremonies, exhibitions, publications, and scholarship entries.

Young Writers Awards

Program Grades: High school students

Students are eligible to enter the contest in one of the three categories with the following submission YWA finalists and winners are also eligible for undergraduate scholarships at Bennington College.

Interlochen Arts Camp

Program Grades: Open to All Students (Limited Space)

The Interlochen Arts Camp is for students who want to study music, theatre, visual arts, creative writing, film and new media, dance, and interdisciplinary arts.

They will accept applications following the deadline until program enrollment is full.

Profile in Courage Essay Contest

Program Grades: High school students

Students are to write an original essay that displays their knowledge of political courage enacted by the U.S. The essay’s word count is from a maximum of 1,000 words to a minimum of 700 (not including citations).

ONE Korean Scholarship

Program Grades: Seniors

Students can apply for a scholarship. They must be able to attend the Award Ceremony on December 14, 2024. The application requires a 500-word essay on the topic, "What have I done to achieve my dreams?"

Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America (LEDA)

Program Grades: Current Juniors

LEDA offers a free five-week residential program at Princeton University that includes academic preparation for college, leadership training, college guidance support based on individual fit, SAT/ACT preparation, and a chance to experience life on a college campus.

NCTE National Writing Award: The Humanities and a Freer Tomorrow

AMC 10/12 & AIME

Program Grades: The AMC 10 is for students in 10th grade and below and covers the high school curriculum up to 10th grade. Students in grade 12 or below and under 19.5 years of age on the day of the contest can take the AMC 12.

These tests are designed for students in the 10th or 12th grade. Students scoring highly on the AMC 12 can advance and take the AIME exam for a chance to be part of the US Math Olympiad.

Arkansas Model Government

Program Grades: High school students & up

The Academy for Public Service was created to create a new class of leaders that are focused on solving problems. Having political parties is not allowed. It was created to teach civic engagement, public service leadership, ethics in public service, and to teach people how to maintain our democracy.

BEST Robotics Competition

The BEST Robotics Competition is a national six-week robotics competition held in the fall. Teams design and build a machine that can perform certain, specific tasks in three minutes.

Jackson Laboratory Summer Student Program

The Summer Student Program is designed for students who want to immerse themselves in genetics and genomics research. Students participate in an ongoing research program with the support of an experienced scientific mentor.

Tisch Summer High School Program

Program Grades: Rising Juniors & Seniors

The Tisch Summer High School Residential Program is an intensive, four-week pre-college program open to high school sophomores and juniors from around the world. Students apply to one of these artistic tracks: Dance, Drama, Production & Design, Dramatic Writing, Filmmaking, Game Design, Photography and Imaging, or Recorded Music.

CBYX (Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange)

Program Grades: High school students ages 15 to 18 ½ on August 1 of the program departure year 

The Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange (CBYX) scholarship is for motivated high school students who want to experience a culture and learn a language through a full immersion experience.The CBYX program additionally offers vocational and young professional scholarship opportunities; visit the Programs page to learn more. No German language study/knowledge is required to apply.

Japan-America Friendship Scholars

Program Grades: Born between April 2, 2008- April 1, 2010

Students are able to apply for a six-week stay in Japan with a host family. Attending traditional tea ceremonies, practicing martial arts, and visiting local summer festivals are just some of the activities that YFU students to Japan may experience during their exchange.

Racer Instrumental Music Academy

Program Grades: Rising freshmen to recent 12th grade graduates

Racer Instrumental Music Academy (RIMA) is a week-long summer music camp at Murray State University. Be part of a large concert band and prepare a variety of fun and challenging band literature, culminating with a final Saturday morning showcase concert.

Arkansas Tech University Creative Writing Contest Scholarship

A writing contest in which six scholarships are awarded of up to $1,500. Submissions can vary from a poem, a group of poems, a short story, or a piece of dramatic writing.

U.S. High School Diplomats

Program Grades: Sophomores & Juniors

HSD U.S. is an eight-day program providing 20 American students the opportunity to engage in academic and social pursuits, and forge lifelong friendships with 20 Japanese students of the same age. During the eight-day program hosted on the grounds of the University of Virginia, each American student is paired with a Japanese roommate.

Science Bowl

Program Grades: High school students

Science bowl is STEM-oriented trivia contest similar to Quiz Bowl but with only science and math topics. Regional Competition Duration January - March 2024. The Regional Competition Duration is between January and March 2024. The National Science Bowl National Event is April 25 – 29, 2024.

Bank of America Student Leaders Program 

Program Grades: Juniors and Seniors who live in the Pulaski County area

This program prepares a diverse pipeline of community-minded young students to be successful in the workforce through leadership training and work experience.

Benefits to Attending: This paid eight-week internship will connect a diverse group of more than 300 community-minded high school juniors and seniors that are united by their drive and commitment from over 100 communities to employment, skills development and service.

This program is a civics education program for young women. Students participate in mock government. The program is designed to offer practical instruction on the duties and responsibilities both of a citizen and of public officials.

St. Bernards Medical Center's Junior Volunteer Program

Program Grades: 15-18 years old

This program allows students an opportunity to work in a hospital setting where they will explore careers, gain experience, and help others.

Vocal Arts Camp

Program Grades: Rising freshmen to recent 12th grade graduates

Choral music, musical theatre, pop a cappella and solo music will be explored throughout the week. Campers will spend the week rehearsing a variety of fun and challenging music that will be presented on the Saturday morning student showcase.

Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair
Program Grades: High school students

Students may present work that includes no more than 12 months of continuous research, and they may not include research performed more than 18 months before the Regeneron ISEF in which they will be competing. Students qualify for ISEF by winning one of the overall awards at the WCRSF or ARSSEF.

Kenyon Review Young Writers Workshop

Program Grades: Sophomore or Junior AND/OR ages 16-18

Young writers are provided with a dynamic and supportive environment in which they can expand their talents, discover new strengths, and challenge themselves in the company of peers who are also passionate about writing.

MIT Beaver Works Summer Institute

Program Grades: Rising Freshman to Rising Senior

BWSI teaches STEM project-based programs to help advance the engineers of tomorrow. The process to apply to attend BWSI is multi-step - students must register for online courses first - if not registered for online courses students will not be able to apply to summer portion of the program.

AEGIS Summer Camp: Water & Wilderness

Program Grades: Rising Sophomores and Juniors

Water & Wilderness will be held at Ozark Natural Science Center (ONSC), an outdoor science education facility located deep in the Ozark Mountains where students have the opportunity for a chance to assist field scientists as they gather data and explore a variety of habitats in the Ozark Natural Division.

Congressional Art Competition

Program Grades: High school students

Every spring, the Congressional Institute conducts a national visual art competition for high school students in order to promote and acknowledge artistic skill across the nation. The winners of this competition will have the opportunity to have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year.

Explore Bowdoin

Program Grades: Seniors

The Explore Bowdoin Program allows students to stay with college students, attend classes, meet professors, eat in the dining halls, explore downtown Brunswick, check out student clubs and organizations—and learn about the college admissions process and financial aid along the way.

Air Force Association Cyber Patriot

Program Grades: High school students

Teams of high school and middle school students take on the role of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and must find and fix cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services.

Arkansas Summer Research Institute (ASRI)

Program Grades: At least 16 years old (exceptions have been made for ASMSA students)

The ASRI is an amazing opportunity for high school students as well as undergraduate students who are interested in scientific research, statistical analysis, and "big data" analytics.

Congressional Youth Cabinet

Program Grades: Juniors

Senator John Boozman’s Congressional Youth Cabinet will provide selected high school students in Arkansas with an opportunity to influence the policymaking process and better understand how Congress works.

Regeneron Science Talent Search
Program Grades: Seniors

Students can submit their completed independent research projects. Some projects require documentation of compliance with the ISEF rules. All projects require online submission of a research paper, essays, and recommendations from the project mentor, school counselor, and teachers.

JULY 2025 PROGRAMS

National Young Arts Competition

Program Grades: Grades 10–12 or 15–18 years of age on December 1 of the year applying.

They accept applications related to classical music, dance, design, film, jazz, photography, theater, visual arts, voice, and writing. Award winners are offered a lifetime of artistic support and ongoing connection with a robust network of peers and mentors along with some cash prizes.
