Dear Students and Families,
The Office of Scholar Development is thrilled to introduce our newly created Scholar Development Page! This page is designed to provide insight, opportunities and guidance for our students and families as they navigate the exciting journey of academic and personal growth to expand their horizons beyond the classroom.
What is the Office of Scholar Development?
The Office of Scholar Development serves to assist ASMSA students seek out enrichment programs, internships, research experiences, and other opportunities. Our goal is to cultivate students to begin identifying their passions and strengthen their overall academic profiles though experiential learning as they seek admission to the nation's most selective colleges and universities.
Why is Experiential Learning Essential?
Experiential learning, through avenues such as summer programs, national competitions, and internships, is integral to a well-rounded education. These experiences provide students with the opportunity to:
Apply Classroom Knowledge: Experiential learning allows students to apply theoretical concepts in real-world settings, reinforcing classroom learning and deepening their understanding of academic material.
Cultivate Critical Skills: Beyond academic achievement, engagement in experiential learning hones crucial life skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and adaptability.
Explore Passion and Purpose: Exposure to diverse experiences helps students discover their passions, guiding them towards fields of study and career paths aligned with their unique strengths and goals.
Building a Competitive College Admissions Profile
In an increasingly competitive landscape, a well-rounded college admissions profile is vital. The activities facilitated through the Office of Scholar Development, including summer programs, national competitions, and internships, can contribute significantly to a student's profile by:
Demonstrating Initiative: Engagement in experiential learning showcases a student's proactive approach to education, demonstrating a commitment to personal and academic growth.
Highlighting Leadership and Initiative: Participation in national competitions and internships provides opportunities for students to showcase leadership skills and take initiative in pursuing their interests.
Differentiating Your Profile: A diverse set of experiences distinguishes a student's application, making them stand out to college admissions committees.
